Hey there,

Welcome indeed. Microstock is a lot of fun and often addictive. Sometimes it can even be a good earner.

I come from an IT background too, but was lucky to find microstock a little earlier than you. I also blog about my microstock experiences and earnings, and throw in some market observations as well.

Marianne is spot on - you'll get a lot of rejections early on. Learn from them and improve your craft and your success rate will rise. iStockphoto and Shutterstock are the two most difficult microstock agencies to get into, but they're also the most lucrative. I recommend trying to get accepted until you do, but at the same time registering with most of the other top websites as well. Use the income from those that do accept you for equipment and/or education to get yourself accepted by the more difficult agencies - it's well worth it.

If you love photography you'll definitely find success with microstock. Viva la revolucion!

Marianne!

Thanks for stopping by … always nice to hear what you have to say. And I certain agree with you about learning from the rejections; heck, I think half the kick I get out of using the camera and this whole experience is that there's so much still to learn. Kinda glad there's no real end to the learning, or I might get bored!

Would love to look at your photos on some of the stock sites … do I already know where they are? If not, drop me a link!

Thanks,

Hi Dale,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Micro-stock. :D You can learn from the rejections you get so I would look at them as just that, a valuable learning experience. Don't give up, just keep on submitting, some of the sites are good about explaining why they reject your images, some are not so explicit.

Always check your images at 100 percent and look at the new uploads. Each site is different on what subjects they accept and you'll soon learn what kind of stock to upload.

It sure isn't easy but it's worth it when the money starts coming in.
